James Ch’ng

Founder and Chairman

James Ch’ng founded Far West Scallops in 1983 with a vision to establish an iconic seafood brand, producing and selling the world’s best scallops.  In the mid 1970s, James was part owner of Melbourne’s famous Flower Drum restaurant and later the owner of Bamboo House, a long established Melbourne restaurant.  During this period, James’ restaurant started using scallops from Western Australia, which he thought were among the best seafoods that he had tasted.  In 1983, James had the opportunity to buy a scallop trawler and a fishing license for Shark Bay and Far West was born.  Under James’ management, Far West quickly established a reputation for quality, a tradition that continues to this day.


Hamish Ch’ng

Hamish has been with Far West for over thirty years. Initially, Hamish ran the fishing boats and the factory, which was then based in Carnarvon.
